This suggestive night scene shows us the waterway that led to the notorious and beloved Yoshiwara entertainment district. The geisha, probably returning from an engagement, follows a glowing lantern seen at the edge of the viewer's left. The color woodblock print was created by Utagawa Hiroshige in 1857.
